At WildRoots, we offer immersive nature play programs for young children and their families in the South County, Rhode Island area. Through open-ended, child-led play and exploration in nature, children have the time and space to learn at their own pace while bonding with the natural world. We deeply respect children, their unique personalities and interests, and the developmental process. Our program is facilitated by passionate early childhood professionals, with a Reggio-inspired lens on teaching young children that emphasizes experiential and place-based learning within the context of relationships.

Within our holistic approach, caregivers will build community alongside their children. As parents of young children, we are all searching for deeper connections and local support. Families who choose our nature play programs will have the chance to connect with each other while their children engage in play and exploration. We understand that each child develops within the unique context of their own family, and we honor and welcome the diverse experiences and perspectives of all families.
Learning through play is intrinsically motivating and process-based.
Play and exploration foster inquiry and the construction of understandings about the world through authentic experiences.
Play offers multiple modes of expression for young children.
Nature is open-ended and provides endless "loose parts" for play and exploration with all of the senses.
Play in nature supports a strong connection to the natural world.
Nature is a source of resilience and emotional regulation for young children (and people of all ages).
Experiencing all types of weather provides varied sensory input, which promotes sensory integration.
Direct exposure to different outdoor conditions builds resilience and connections with the rhythms of the natural world.
Time outside is important on all the days, not just the "fair weather" days!
Children have rights, a voice, and citizenship from infancy, and deserve respect and inclusion.
We want to trust and empower young children to follow their interests and lead their own learning through play and exploration.
Children have many different tools for learning and expressing themselves.
Taking risks during play gives children an opportunity to satisfy their biological drive to engage in play with perceived dangers.
Risky play supports physical, cognitive, and social-emotional competencies.
Children who have opportunities to take risks through play develop strong risk-assessment skills.
Supportive communities are vital to the human experience.
Relationships are at the center of all teaching and learning.
Our nature play programs are part of a growing movement within the field of early childhood education, prioritizing crucial experiences for young children's healthy development: play and exploration, connections with nature, nurturing relationships, and a strong sense of belonging.
